Superior hiking trail – Silver Bay, MN

Well, it’s been an interesting experience so far on the good ole sunshine trail. To start with, the trail isn’t actually along lake Superior, it’s *near* the lake up in the hills.  Who knew? Why do none of these trails actually go along the bodies of water that you would assume they do from their names?!? Anyway, I can handle walking through pretty forests instead of along a lake, what was harder to accept were the swarms of incredibly vicious mosquitos, by day 2 I was making an unexpected detour to the closest town to buy some emergency deet.  I usually carry some, but forgot to grab a bottle in Duluth when I was getting my supplies there.  Will not be making that mistake again 🤣.

Next stop should be Grand Marais, a little over 100 miles down the trail

This view is the closest I’ve gotten to the lake on the official trail 🤣
But I actually wanted to see the lake, so I took an alternate to a state park on the shore and spent a night there, it was wonderful

Then this happened. You know, sometimes stuff just happens when you’re hiking, you learn to just go with it and do the best you can.  And yes, I hike in chacos, they’ve never given me any problems until MN 🤷‍♀️
