Day 40 – Canada!!

I don’t even remember my last post, was it from Stevens pass?  Seems like so long ago even though I know it was only a few days.  Anyway, I started hiking with a group of other north-bound section hikers who were finishing up their PCT hikes from previous years, so we all decided to get up to Mazama WA and then to Hart’s pass and hike to the border, so that’s what we did!  So first we went down to Leavenworth, which is an adorable little touristy Bavarian-themed town and stayed in someone’s backyard, so that was fun.  Then we got a ride up to Mazama with a trail angel and stayed at the Lions den (a trail hostel-ish place?  It’s hard to describe, basically a place for hikers to stay and hangout for a few days before getting back on the trail), then another trail angel gave us a ride to Harts pass.  So all-in-all it was a lot of traveling to get to Hart’s pass, but it was surprisingly easy 🤷‍♀️.

From Harts pass it’s only 30 miles to the border and then another 8 miles to Manning Park in Canada and a highway where you can hitch to Vancouver.  So that’s what we did, we hiked a leisurely 2 days to the border, I celebrated at the border with my new friends who were finishing their PCT hikes, and then we hiked to Canada the next day!  It was a fantastic experience, I’m so glad I met these new friends and got to experience the border with them!!

Now it’s onto Vancouver and I might be hiking the sunshine trail for a week with my new friends?  We’ll see, that’s the amazing thing about being a thru-hiker, you never know what’s coming next!!

Hanging out in Leavenworth!
