Sunshine Coast Trail – Done!

Finished with the sunshine coast trail!  Well, as much of it as I can do, I had to bail out a little early so I could get down to Bellingham to visit a friend before I start the superior trail.  Turns out the group I was hiking with likes to sleep in, take long lunches, and swim in every lake they can, which makes for a fantastic trip but not a very productive one mileage wise.  But that’s ok, I was just out here to see some pretty Canadian scenery and enjoy walking with friends, and that mission was definitely accomplished!

So, the sunshine coast trail was not quite what I pictured it to be, since “coast” is in the name I just assumed most of it would, you know, be along the coast.  Turns out only the very first part is along the coast, the rest goes through hills and forest and mountains, which is fine, it just wasn’t the hike I thought it would be.  The highlight for me though was walking through the old growth forests, the kind with the giant trees covered in moss, I absolutely love hiking through those!  Otherwise it was a lot of nice hiking and swimming in pretty little lakes every day.  And yes, I actually swam in the lakes, it was fairly hot and humid out here, so there were a couple of times when I got to a lake, ripped off my clothes, and dove in with everyone else 🥰

Sometimes the trail felt like a jungle
And sometimes it was the beautiful moss-covered wonderland 😍
But mostly, it looked like this
Enjoying some downtime at a hut
I swear every time the kids saw a lake they immediately jumped in.  This is elk lake and had a beautiful log dock.  Even I jumped in for this one!
I love this picture 🥰
Andi, enjoying the view
The one “bad” part about this trail is constant reminders that logging is always nearby
The view from one of the mountains
On my way out I got a special reward, blackberries!  SO… MANY… BLACKBERRIES.  I missed a bus because I was too busy picking and eating blackberries.  Worth it.
