Day 10 – Mammoth CA, mile 904

7/2/24

My first week on the trail is done!  And wow, did the Sierras ever kick my butt, those first couple of days of hiking were rough.  I think I vastly overestimated my abilities and vastly underestimated the Sierras 🙂  It took me 2 extra days than I was planning to make it to Mammoth, but I got here!!

The Sierras are absolutely gorgeous!  That alone made all of the pain of starting this hike here worth it.  It’s absolutely stunning the scenery that I’ve gotten to walk through!  The difficult part of the Sierras is that you start at say a low river valley around 8000 feet in elevation and then climb right back up to a pass at 11-13,000 feet and then repeat that pattern all week long.  It’s just a LOT of climbing, I probably did 7000 feet of climbing yesterday alone.

Anyway, the moral of the story is that the Sierras are beautiful, I’m extremely glad to be here, and DEFINITELY need a day off here in Mammoth to relax and recover before heading back out there to do it all over again…

Lots of meadows in the Sierras, and they’re all pretty
Lots of stream crossing in the Sierras, and yes, I took this picture from the middle of it
Marmot!!  omg I love marmots so much, this guy was especially adorable
Heading up Forester pass
At the top of Forester pass, the highest point on the PCT!!
Looking back on Forester as I was climbing down.  The snow was annoying but not difficult or dangerous
